Point of Youth:
Developing Advocates for Safe Communities is a youth advisory group to the state decision-makers on substance abuse and public safety issues. Much like the Commission and Council's adult steering committees, this group of young people from around the state advises the Governor and General Assembly on substance abuse and public safety. They are developing an action plan to implement in their own communities and serve as a link between state policy-makers and the youth whose lives are directly impacted by policies surrounding substance abuse and public safety. |

The 39 Indiana Point of Youth Members that make up the class of 2000-2001 represent several different communities in Indiana. They meet eight times on Saturdays every month throughout the year. They come from very diverse settings and backgrounds including private and public schools. Representing urban and rural environments, they range from 15 to 18 years old. Some of them have a lot of experience with advocacy groups and were members of the inaugural class for 1998-1999 while others are just beginning to get involved for their own reasons. We are very proud of this class and excited about the upcoming year and for years to follow. |
